Smoke and Mirrors

Contemporary society is often described as increasingly individualistic. Capitalism is typically criticised for producing individuals who are so self-centred that everything they do is for themselves, with little or no concern for others. This website challenges that view, arguing instead that it is capitalism that saddles people with more social obligations than would have been the case under any other form of social organisation. The smoke and mirrors trick pulled off, however, is that no-one realises this and the common consensus is that capitalism has given us more individual freedom, not less. The truth is that, under capitalism, individual freedom remains potential rather than actual. People remain oppressed under the greatest force for collectivisation the world has ever seen or will see and individual liberty is crushed. The key to unlocking this potential is the recognition that production, increasingly social and co-operative under capitalism, needs to be consciously managed in the interests of people not profit. Only in this way will it be possible for men and women to be freed from social servitude and retain their essential humanity. Only in a communist society has individual liberty the opportunity to become actual, rather than remain potential.

I’ve never heard about this! Surely Marx was for communism, not individualism. By suppressing the fact that Marx saw the ego as the starting point of all human understanding, he has been turned into a weapon against change. Marx was the champion of the individual, the freedom of the individual, but was turned into an ideologue of the state.

Quote: Capital is money, capital is commodities. By virtue of it being value, it has acquired the occult ability to add value to itself. It brings forth living offspring, or, at the least, lays golden eggs. Karl Marx

Capital has had to come right back to where value originates in the first place. Capital has had to come right back to where value originates in the first place. If anyone was in any doubt about where profit and the value that appears as money originates from, or if anyone once thought even that banks somehow magically created value, then the scales now should have fallen from their eyes.
